Hey Jim,
Sorry about that. Is it possible for you to give me access to your site? Here are the details I’ll need. An Administrator account on your site and FTP access, so that I can replace files.
Thanks
Syam MohanKeymasterThanks Jim, next version will have the notification and grace period.
Syam MohanKeymasterI’m glad to help.
Thanks
Syam MohanKeymasterGlad to know that.
Thanks
Syam MohanKeymasterHi Jim,
There are only three reasons why it would deactivate.
1. Deactivated from Go Pro page.
2. Deactivated from wpfront.com purchase history.
3. Site home URL changed. Is there any chance that one of these would have happened? How many times did this happen? Did you check your purchase history before activating again to see whether that site exists within the list?
I understand that how this will be an issue from a security stand point. I’ll add email notification with grace period and audit trails in next version so that you will be notified on accidental deactivation with enough time to reactivate. Nothing changed in v2.10 on licensing functions, so I doubt it.
Thanks

Syam MohanKeymasterHi Philipp,
Can you try doing a restore on the Administrator role and check? Make sure you have the “Remove Non-Standard Capabilities” unchecked in settings.
Thanks
Syam
Syam MohanKeymasterCan you disable all the plugins and check?

Syam MohanKeymasterHi Aaron,
Can you try enabling all the capabilities under “Posts”?
Thanks
Syam
Syam MohanKeymasterHi Aaron,
Media Permissions gives you one more layer of restriction which WordPress doesn’t support by default. In WordPress media permissions checks against post capabilities. To delete a media they will need delete_posts capability. delete_posts capability allow them to delete their own posts as well as media. This check happens within the WordPress core. If you want a setting where you want the user to delete the posts but not the media, that’s when WPFront Media Permissions help you. So try giving the role delete_posts capability.
Thanks

Syam MohanKeymasterHi Shannon,
Do you still need help with this?
Thanks

Syam MohanKeymasterHi John,
“why would a site administrator want someone with lesser permissions to be able to give someone else greater permissions than they the giver has…?” is a very good question and that’s exactly why this new feature is required. The default functionality of WordPress allows any user with promote_users capability to promote any user to any role including Administrator. For example if Subscribers get promote_users capability, they can promote themselves to Administrators. This new feature allows you to limit that capability so that they cannot promote anyone to a higher level.
I really don’t think an Administrator will create a public website where anyone can register and promote themselves to Administrator. I would never create an account in such a website, because I don’t want others to steal my information. For example anyone can create an account in wpfront.com by purchasing the product but they cannot promote themselves to Administrator. But if I want a user to have the permission to manage a few other users I can easily do that with this new feature.
Thanks

Syam MohanKeymasterHi Shannon,
Do you have the functionality disabled in settings? Do you see the warning in settings page?
